Inspiration
Ichabod Crane: Featured in the novel “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” authored by Washington Irving. A schoolmaster and self-proclaimed expert in the supernatural Ichabod takes a posting in the small New England town of Sleepy Hollow. His encounter with The Headless Horseman has chilled and thrilled us since it was published in 1820, and serves as the inspiration for this piece. Its translucence and contrast from bleached white to mahogany brown gives off an ethereal glow when struck with the proper light. Agate stone is propertied to ward off evil thoughts and may have served Ichabod on that "witching hour of night when he began his journey home."
